    Just a short version

What is the first thing you believe attracts them?

In one word Scent I think this is what turns them on to what is around.

Whats second thing that leads them to there pray?

I think they find dinner with there lateral lines.

    What causes the strike?

Sight is for the primary strike and they just cant resist a dieing bait fish!

I guess it depends on what they are eating. If they are on clam in the early spring, I can throw a plug right on top of them and nothing. So it probably is a scent thing at this time. Especially since on occasion they have eaten either fresh or rotten clams, but not both. However, if they are targeting baitfish, I think its a matter of them seeing a plug that has the appropriate action.

Striped Bass primary sense is smell, They rely on smell and taste a lot more than vision to navigate through its under water world. It is also thought that striped bass, Much like salmon can smell their place of birth and this is what guides them on their quest to spawning grounds. Scent is the stripers number one factor for locating what for dinner tonight! In early spring the strongest scent is clams and is on the top of its menu. As the season progresses #bait fish begin to show and there scent becomes more pronounced #stripers begin to hunt that species. This behavior is all season and this is one of the key reason why it is so important to match the hatch.

[HIDE=part]The second sense used in locating it's meal there lateral lines, depending on what season and bait present are used to pick vibrations from schooling bait and top water disturbances such as jumping bait, seagulls diving and strikes from other predators. These lateral lines provide a general direction to there food source.

Last is sight this is a must for a strike, #Striped #Bass knows what dinner will look like and how it reacts and swims. Be sure to match the hatch! and be the bait fish. Most strikes you will encounter is when you have a sudden speed-up or pause also the injured bait fish approach is a killer![/HIDE]

Sometimes sound, sometimes smell, all depends on where they are in relation to the prey and the current.

I think I will add my 2 cents on this! So many factors to consider based on time of year! Scent seems to be what bring them to a certain location face it how else would they know what is around. Sound is used for navigation and helps them to locate there school and bait fish that are in trouble. We all know structure and current play a major role where they will feed and stage and last sight if we do not trigger that predatory strike they simply just swim off and we never even knew they where following or lure.
